Bar 44 tapas y copas, Penarth
Bar 44 tapas y copas group 14 Windsor Road Penarth Vale of glamorgan cf641jh Vereinigtes Königreich
After 10 years in Cowbridge, Bar 44 decided to take a belated plunge and expand to a second bar. Penarth was a natural choice - on the outskirts of Cardiff but a thriving town in its own right, full of people wanting to enjoy good food and drink.
The Penarth venue was a derelict greetings card shop, ripe for making into a tapas & sherry shrine. The shape is traditionally Spanish - narrow and long, lending itself to our idea of a long bar on 1 wall running into the kitchen at which customers can sit, enjoy a sherry and watch the chefs cook and pass them their tapas. The emphasis here was to push out exceptional food in front of the customer, whilst being able to pair their wine and sherry with the bartender and chefs all being within a few metres of them. Hanging hams and lots of sherry, but in a modern setting on a modern high street. With an added bonus of a lovely terraza.
Within a stones throw of Cardiff Bay and Penarth pier, naturally finos and manzanilla's are strong sellers!

Arroz negro with cuttlefish and wild prawns - xixarito manzanilla pasada en rama
Chocolate and pedro ximenez mousse, vanilla sea salt, toast and arbequina oil - nectar pedro ximenez
Cocktail - el caballito
Tio pepe fino, finlandia vodka and ponche mixed with grapefruit, lemon and lime
Pacha-hattan - A pacharran twist on a manhattan, also using anis del mono, pomegranate and oloroso
