UK Sherry Hotspots

It is easy to see why talk of a Sherry revival continues to be a topic of conversation in the UK, as Sherry bars continue to pop-up round the country. Here, we round up where's new and up coming for spring 2017.

Before we look at what's due to be launched later this year, we must mention two notable new entrants onto the Sherry scene that both opened late in 2016: Curado Bar in Cardiff and Paco Tapas in Bristol.

Cardiff is fast becoming a Sherry Hotspot - along with Manchester, London and Edinburgh (which opened it's first Sherry bar in Edinburgh in 2016). The latest addition to city's restaurants is Curado Bar, a new venture from the team behind Ultracomida, one of the UK's best Spanish delis and online shop. Run by Leigh Sinclair, Curado Bar is appealing to the foodie culture in Cardiff and showcasing northern Spain cuisine alongside the best drinks, also from Spain. So naturally this includes Sherry, one drink they are championing in the burgeoning food and drink scene in Cardiff.

Across the channel is Paco Tapas, part of the michelin-starred Sanchez Brothers group that owns Casamia, also in the city of Bristol. Named in honour of their father and set up by brothers Jonny (who sadly passed away in 2016) and Peter, the restaurant also celebrates Sherry, with a great by-the-glass list. With Paco Tapas opening to local acclaim in 2016, Bristol is once again securing its status as Sherry's spiritual home in the UK.

The first half of 2017 will also welcome Manchester's first Sherry bar when Flok opens on King Street in early summer 2017. And a new Sherry dedicated bar in Shoreditch, East London, is currently under development, due to open in early summmer. Details of both these new Sherry Hotspots will be reviewed here later.
