The Sherry World Map - International Sherry Week 2016

The Sherry world map is an artistic rendering of Sherry's history as seen through the eyes of a young Spanish design duo, known in the industry for their strikingly original approach and featuring a variety of iconic scenes, symbols and sherry lovers from today and yesteryear.

This map brings together history, culture, festivities, gastronomy and Sherry in equal measure. Between the mouth of the river Guadalquivir and that of the Guadalete there rises a special current which converts the water into wine. It envelops the land and creates in Sherry an international element of communication.

Illustrated here is the history of Sherry, from the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans, continuing through the Moorish period, the Reconquest, the discovery of the Americas, the expedition of Magellan and Elcano, to the present day.

Included are tasting notes ranging from cacao from the coasts of Equatorial Guinea, tobacco from Brazil, to orange blossom from the Cape of Good Hope.

Also appearing are portraits of just a few of the master winemakers, the alchemists of Sherry, such as Manuel Lozano (RIP), Antonio Flores, Montserrat Molina, Paola Medina, Pilar Plá, Enrique Pérez Rodríguez, Juan Carlos Gutiérrez Colosía and his daughter Carmen. The prestigious writer and expert in European wines, Julian Jeffs, certainly merits a place. Included too, are representatives from the Consejo Regulador of Jerez, International Sherry Week, personalities from the world of culture across the ages like Goya, Lola Flores, Rafael Alberti, Miguel Benítez of the group Los Delincuentes, Shakespeare, Caballero Bonald, Blasco Ibáñez, Pemán, and people working, enjoying Sherry…

Also represented are the most famous vineyards and their many plots of vines which are centred around the old Morabita road towards Sanlúcar, through the Macharnudo where harvesting is taking place.

The world of gastronomy is reflected too, with our unmistakable tapas and the Jerez chef Ángel León as a representative of the haute cuisine of the province of Cádiz, and the prestigious international chef, José Andrés.

The highly fashionable world of Sherry cocktails is also represented.

Thus, each of the towns which form the Sherry Triangle, Jerez, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa María, are clearly and equally represented.  Visit the website and explore the entire map.
