The Sherry Triangle welcomes the largest international group of wine connoisseurs - The #winelovers

From February 10th - 13th more than 35 members of 16 different nationalities of the #winelover community will be heading to the Marco de Jerez in order to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the association of professional wine lovers who promote viticulture and the responsible consumption of wine as a means of social expression.

Paladar y Tomar, a Spanish boutique tour operator specialized in bespoke wine, food, cultural and lifestyle tours in Spain, has made it possible for the international media and some of the most renowned wine professionals to make it over to de Marco de Jerez, attracted by its aura of mystery and the media show that has in these recent years engulfed some of what are the best wines of the world.

A triangular program, like the Marco de Jerez

The program has been drawn so that the three areas of winemaking, Jerez de la Frontera, Santa Maria Port and Sanlucar de Barrameda are equally represented. From the sherry countryside to the shores of the Guadalete and the Guadalquivir, they will step on the dusty albariza and feel the breeze of the Atlantic. Wednesday, February 10 will be dedicated to Jerez de la Frontera, from its vineyards to its cathedrals. There will be a review of the origins of sherry wine and its singularities by sherry master blender Antonio Flores, from the Bodegas Tío Pepe, and of Manuel Lozano, Lustau Bodegas’ oenologist. Thursday, February 11 will feature Sanlucar, where biological cultivation reaches its heights of expression, and with the guidance of Salvador Real, oenologist of Bodegas Delgado Zuleta, and of Montse Molina, oenologist of Barbadillo Bodegas, we will delve into the innermost depths of the flower. On Friday the 12th is when El Puerto de Santa Maria will surprise us further on starting from the Guadalete River mouth where Juan Carlos Gutierrez Colosía, owner of Gutierrez Colosía Bodegas, will guide us through a bodega that feeds on the winds and humidity that pass through it daily. During the evening Bodegas Osborne will offer us a masterly menu of rare Sherries and will tell us of the mythic sherry brandy. On an ending note, Williams & Humbert Bodegas will open their doors to us on Saturday where resident oenologist Paola Medina will guide us through their vintage wines in a rare tasting.

Sixteen nationalities under a single cause, sherry wine

Korea, Sweden, USA, Italy, Portugal and Germany are some of the countries that will attend the intense training program that has been designed. Food and Drink Coordinators of mayor hotel chains, importers, businessmen, journalists, WSET title holders of the third and fourth level, and even a Wine Master, Patrick Farrell, will come together over a single cause: sherry wine. They come with the intention of learning it all, of experimenting, and understanding such unique way to make wine. They wish to understand the where, when, how, why, and who is behind each project in order to share it with the world. Naturally digital, hashtag #Jerez2016 aims to unseat the universal and all powerful #wine, just as it happened in 2015 during the time that the third anniversary of the community in Lisbon and Alentejo in Portugal lasted. The farewell dinner acquires southern traits and turns into an informal event, lacking in protocols and with a BYOB format in which participants uncork bottles they brought with them from all over the world.

#Winelover Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation

#Winelovers define themselves as a group passionate about wine born under the cover of a digital era and whose endeavor is one of communicating, educating, and promoting wine culture on a global level and demonstrate wine’s socializing function throughout history. Altruism and diversity establish this group’s character in which English is the lingua franca and that has brought together over 20 thousand members on Facebook and over 23 thousand followers on Twitter. With such a potential, founder Luis Alberto has organized its members naming ambassadors according to their nationality and expertise in some areas, such as, wine and archeology, wine and health, sparkling wine, fortified wine, category that includes the sherry wine. Luis Alberto is a candidate to be a Master of Wine and is the official ambassador of Italian wines, besides founding #Winelover Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation, a foundation that gathers funds for breast cancer research through wine related initiatives. The greatest support Luis Alberto has had to his foundation is without a doubt Patrick Farrell, biologist, medic, and licensed physician, who was in fact the first one ever to obtain a Master of Wine title back in 1995.
