The search for a new Sherry Wine label

Sherry Wine is launching a competition for the design of labels to breathe new life into its image via “Design Crowd”, a global web platform for design services.

This initiative offers an opportunity for new talent to show its creativity and come up with what will be a new image for Sherry and Manzanilla. The competition is now open and the deadline for the submission of designs is Friday 15th July 2016.

The Sherry Council wishes to modernise the labels used in its generic promotional activities which include the most important styles of wine of the region: Fino, Manzanilla, Amontillado, Palo Cortado, Oloroso, Pale Cream, Medium, Cream, Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel. Ten labels are therefore needed, one for each of the styles mentioned above.

The Wine Label Design Competition is aimed at both professional and amateur designers, art students, or indeed anyone who wishes to participate. 

Artwork can be produced on any design programme and should be a suitable size for the black 75-centilitre bottles (305mm tall with a base diameter of 76.20 mm and a shoulder diameter of 82mm). 

There is no restriction on subject matter, but provision should be made for the logos, which are included in the briefing. Interested parties can consult the full details of the competition as well as ways of sending in their work at Design Crowd Sherry Wine Label Contest. 

The competition will be judged by members of the communication department of the Sherry Council and professionals in various areas of design. The winning design will constitute the new image of the generic Sherry wines.

The winner will be announced during the Harvest Festival of Jerez de la Frontera in the first fortnight of September.

The prize will be 1,000 Euros, a diploma and a selection of Sherries.

Presentation of the new bottling’s will take place during International Sherry Week, the world’s biggest celebration of Sherry which will take place from the 7th – 13th November 2016. 

The winning design will therefore, be seen not only in Spain but also on the world stage.
