Great Sherry Tasting success reflects buoyant UK trade
Event host, Beltran Domecq, president of the CRDO Jerez y Manzanilla (pictured above with Patricia de la Puerta) commented: "This past year has continued to provide good news for our Sherry business in the UK - with new Sherry bars continuing to pop up in metropolitan areas; premium sales of Sherry predicated to rise and increasing a further 18% by 2021; as well as Majestic's recent news of growth in Sherry sales of 46%."
Domecq continued: "The event next month is the sixth annual Great Sherry Tasting, and I am delighted once again to be hosting the event on behalf of all 28 producers represented, some of who we are also pleased to welcome in person."
With new producers attending, some looking for UK agents, a selection of new wines released, and visiting winemakers, the Great Sherry Tasting always has something new, even for the most knowledgeable Sherry fans.
Also attending the event was Secretary General, Patricia de la Puerta, of the Sherry shippers association, FEDEJEREZ. Commenting on the day, de la Puerta said: "I am honoured to be here today supporting the Sherry producers, and the importers, exhibiting at this year’s event. The success of the Great Sherry Tasting supports our confidence to increase sales of these outstanding wines in this market. We’re working hard for that and we thank our Sherrylovers for their continuous support. We are optimistic for the future."
The UK Sherry industry will continue its promotion schedule this autumn with its award-winning International Sherry Week (6-12 November). Campaign director, Angeline Bayly commented: "International Sherry Week is the highlight of our annual activity in the UK and the plans for this year will give us the widest reach and impact yet."
